Ferrari has a patent for an air conditioning system for what I'm assuming is for its Purosangue SUV.
The patent itself is about an optimized AC system that takes into account outside solar radiation, and the temperatures of different parts of passengers bodies. It optimizes air flow based on body shape, the amount of clothing worn, and even gender.
The drawings show a generally sedan-like shape with a rear that slopes towards a horizontal trunk, but that may just be a placeholder shape. What is important is the rear seating, with the patent explicitly describing thermal cameras to read the temperatures of the rear seats. Despite the shape of the drawing, the likeliest application is for the Purosangue.
METHOD TO CONTROL AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IN A PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF A ROAD VEHICLE
Abstract: A method to control an air conditioning system (5) in a passenger compartment (2) of a road vehicle (1), comprising the steps of detecting, by means of a sensor member (10), a body temperature of at least a part of the body of one or more occupants (4) of the passenger compartment (2) and transmitting the detected body temperature to the air conditioning system (5), which controls a plurality of ventilation devices (6) arranged inside the passenger compartment (2), wherein the method comprises the further steps of identifying the number and the position of the one or more occupants (4) seated in the passenger compartment (2), determining an optimized tuning at least based on the body temperature detected by the sensor member (10) and controlling the ventilation devices (6) as a function of the optimized tuning.
